Hello Everyone,

I hope you had a good winter but spring has not arrived soon enough for me especially after that fourteen inch snowstorm a few weeks ago. It was beautiful but brutally cold and I'm glad it is now warm enough for the flowers to start blooming again.

I have some exciting news to share with you. I've started a series of paintings from my photographs of Claude Monet's beautiful Giverny. My husband and I visited his home in France several times and it is just breathtaking . The water lilies and weeping willows with their reflections in the water are enchanting. I hope you enjoy my series. Here is an example of one of the paintings.

NEW PAINTINGS
Doodle Doo and Harry Meets Sally are two whimsical paintings I did recently. I never attempted paintings of this genre before and I found it challenging yet very enjoyable. I hope you like them.

UPCOMING EXHIBITS
I will be showing a painting in the Seventeenth Annual Members Exhibit of the Water Mill Museum from June 18 to July 13, 2009. There will be a brunch reception on Sunday, June 21st at the Museum from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 41 Old Mill Road, Water Mill, New York 11976.

Also, come over to have a look at my website http://www.pattyschwarzstudio.com/. I'll be uploading several new paintings in the coming weeks. Thank you for your support and interest in my work. Enjoy the spring and I'll see you in the summer if not before.

"Welcome Back".
October was a perfect month to travel and travel we did. My husband had meetings in London and while he was working, I spent my week walking around this beautiful city and I took hundreds of photos. It rained only one day but that was perfect too because of the marvelous painterly reflections in the sidewalks and streets. I think I'll be painting many London scenes in the near future.

From London we flew to Pisa in Italy, rented a car and drove down to our beloved Muricciaglia www.muricciaglia.com in Radda in Chianti. This is the first time we have been to Tuscany this late in the season. The fall foliage was spectacular and the weather was cool and pleasant. The crowds of people had thinned out enough that it was a pleasure to walk around and visit old friends in Buonconvento, San Gimignano and Badia a Coltabuono. There are so many things to do and see in Tuscany. Cooking classes, wine tasting, olive oil tasting, fine dining and of course, sightseeing are just a few.

Mimma and Franco Ferrando own Muricciaglia. Mimma with her sister Franca and three other good friends own a cooking school called "Tutti a Tavola" www.tutti-a-tavola.com. They teach the fine art of Tuscan cooking. We have taken the classes several times and they are worth every penny. It was a wonderful relaxing vacation and hopefully, we will be visiting again next year.

For those of you in the Huntington, New York area, I am exhibiting in the Art League of Long Island Members' Exhibition in the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery from December 6 to January 3. The address is 107 East Deer Park Road, Dix Hills, New York 11746. ph. 631-462-5400.

I want to wish all of you a Magical Holiday Season and that all your wishes come true.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who came to see “My Italian Memories” Collection at the beautiful Cold Spring Harbor Library during the month of August. It was wonderful meeting you and thank you so much for your thoughts and comments. It meant so much to me. A big thank you also goes to Marie Horney and the staff of the Library for their help.

My husband and I had a very nice visit to Seattle a couple of weeks ago. It’s a beautiful city with gorgeous sunsets and reminds me a lot of San Francisco.

The summer has just flown by – I really don’t know where the time has gone but it is time for me to get started on some new painting projects for the fall. I am working on a New York City series from the many photos I have taken in the City this year.
This is going to be a challenge but I think I am up to it. Go to my website http://www.pattyschwarzstudio.com/ to see what I have done so far.

I hope you have a great fall season and I will see you around Christmas time.

Solo Exhibition at theCold Spring Harbor Library

“Cold Spring Hills resident, Patty Schwarz is planning her “My Italian Memories” solo exhibition at the Cold Spring Harbor Library on Long Island from August 1st to the 31st with an opening reception on Saturday, August 9th from 2 to 4 p.m.” Everyone is welcome and if you are in the Suffolk County area, please stop by to see my paintings.

These Italian watercolor paintings are impressions of my many trips to Italy with my husband, Dr. Richard Schwarz. We have been traveling to Italy for the past eight years and instead of doing the usual Venice, Florence, Rome routine vacations which we have done many times before, we rent a villa on 75 acres in the lush Tuscan countryside and take day trips exploring magnificent castles, centuries old towns and vineyards and visiting friends we have made throughout the years, It is a very relaxing and enjoyable two week holiday. Sometime, we will take the first Eurostar train from Florence and spend the day in Venice where I’ll take a million photos for reference, have a leisurely lunch, window shop, then take the last train back in the evening. Another time, we will drive to Siena which is only 30 minutes away and have lunch in the Piazza del Campo, famous for the Palio horse races. One of our favorite places to visit is the medieval town of San Gimignano with its elegant towers. This is an easy 45 minute drive from Muricciaglia, our villa in Radda in Chianti and it has the most beautiful porcelain you could ever imagine. The triangular Piazza della Cisterna and the Piazza del Duomo constitute the heart of the town. San Gimignano is a must see! Another favorite town is Panzano with its infamous butcher Dario Cecchini. Dario is quite the character as he recites poetry while he waits on his customers who come from miles away. He also sells the most fabulous quince and pepper jelly that you spread on cheese. Dario has his own restaurant across the street from the butcher shop. Of course, the main course is meat!

During the course of a season, I will be showing you some new paintings I have completed with a narrative of my inspiration. I hope you enjoy these newsletters and I welcome your comments. Please don’t hesitate to visit my website and contact me with your suggestions.

Warmest regards,
Patty Schwarz
