“Cold Spring Hills resident, Patty Schwarz is planning her “My Italian Memories” solo exhibition at the Cold Spring Harbor Library on Long Island from August 1st to the 31st with an opening reception on Saturday, August 9th from 2 to 4 p.m.” Everyone is welcome and if you are in the Suffolk County area, please stop by to see my paintings.
These Italian watercolor paintings are impressions of my many trips to Italy with my husband, Dr. Richard Schwarz. We have been traveling to Italy for the past eight years and instead of doing the usual Venice, Florence, Rome routine vacations which we have done many times before, we rent a villa on 75 acres in the lush Tuscan countryside and take day trips exploring magnificent castles, centuries old towns and vineyards and visiting friends we have made throughout the years, It is a very relaxing and enjoyable two week holiday. Sometime, we will take the first Eurostar train from Florence and spend the day in Venice where I’ll take a million photos for reference, have a leisurely lunch, window shop, then take the last train back in the evening. Another time, we will drive to Siena which is only 30 minutes away and have lunch in the Piazza del Campo, famous for the Palio horse races. One of our favorite places to visit is the medieval town of San Gimignano with its elegant towers. This is an easy 45 minute drive from Muricciaglia, our villa in Radda in Chianti and it has the most beautiful porcelain you could ever imagine. The triangular Piazza della Cisterna and the Piazza del Duomo constitute the heart of the town. San Gimignano is a must see! Another favorite town is Panzano with its infamous butcher Dario Cecchini. Dario is quite the character as he recites poetry while he waits on his customers who come from miles away. He also sells the most fabulous quince and pepper jelly that you spread on cheese. Dario has his own restaurant across the street from the butcher shop. Of course, the main course is meat!
During the course of a season, I will be showing you some new paintings I have completed with a narrative of my inspiration. I hope you enjoy these newsletters and I welcome your comments. Please don’t hesitate to visit my website and contact me with your suggestions.
Warmest regards,
Patty Schwarz
